On Sunday, September 10th, 50 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God in Trafford gathered to clean the public areas along and adjacent to Chester Road.

The cleanup area stretched from Cornbrook Tram Station along Chester and City Road across the 2 boroughs of Trafford and Manchester, which included a tram station, a primary school, a park, residential areas, back alleys and the main roads.

Despite the scorching sun, the volunteers joyfully collected rubbish from streets and alleys and even gathered some abandoned furniture such as mattresses, prams etc. to restore the streets to their former glory.

In a couple of hours, the streets were sparkling clean, and so were the minds of the members who joined the event. Their faces beamed with smiles for joining such a meaningful event and doing good work for the community.

A family of 7 local residents also joined the event and said it’s a very good opportunity to teach young children about community service and keeping the environment tidy.

Out of 50 participants, more than half are young adults aged from 18 to 29. The cleanup event was a great opportunity not only for the environment but also for promoting positive activities and reducing antisocial behaviour among young adults.

Nuala Rockson, a participant commented, “There were so many people who beeped their horns in support of us, appreciating what was being done. One man even stopped his car in the middle of the road and ran over to us asking how he could get involved with this work.

It’s quite overwhelming to see how joyfully and diligently all our youth members are working. Their number is increasing rapidly, and they really are such a good example to all members.”

Zhanna, a worker in her 20s who recently participated in the campaigns, also added, “It was a really great time to share it together with all the members. During cleaning, we also had a joyous time together. Thankfully we were able to gather a lot of rubbish and make the surroundings clean! People in cars passed by expressed their support by honking and the glory of God was spreading!”

This is the 7,479th event of a Worldwide Cleanup Campaign challenge raised by the World Mission Society Church of God volunteer group. Church members all around the world have diligently carried out environmental cleanups worldwide to save precious lives and clean the environment which suffers from severe climate change and pollution.
