For as long as users on the platform can remember TikTok has never asked for proof of who you are when using an account to withdraw money or use it to gift others, things have now suddenly changed.
TikTok creators who are able to go live are given gifts by others and some of these gifts can be very lucrative, people battle each other to gain even more gifts which then are converted to coins.
The social media giant have gone too far with what proof they require, where as YouTube and others only ask for VAT information which is the best way around the problem and does not invade your privacy.
We expect a big drop in TikToks user base as many creators in the UK are on benefits or a low paid and although the majority are legally gaining extra funds they may not be able to get the required documentation or as previously said may not want to give such personal details for security reasons.
TikTok want an identification card with your name and other details and a photo, so a driving licence would be perfect.
With the expected fall in users it might be that TikTok will soon only ask for VAT information like YouTube does which is a better way of doing things and not identifying someone in a sketchy way.
