The UK government is to ban the use of all mobile phones in schools during school day and including at break times.

Education Secretary Gilliam Keegan is backing head teachers in banning mobile phone use which she believes will tackle disruptive behaviour and online bullying while boosting more focus during lessons.

The ban aims to support the wider work the government is doing to raise standards in schools by increasing students focus and reducing distractions.

This move to ban mobile phones into schools will bring England in line with other countries in the EU, according to the UN around a third of secondary school students reported mobile phones being used in lessons.

According to the government if schools fail to implement the new guidance they will consider legislation in the future to make the guidance statutory.

The guidance now will set out limited exemptions for children who require their phones for medical reasons.
