Police close off Atlantic Street in Altrincham following serious incident

Police have closed off the bottom part of Atlantic Street following a serious incident which occurred at around 3.30pm on 12 October 2023.

At the scene we saw investigators and police talking, the TPT (Trans Pennine Trail) was also closed off although we believe cyclists and runners were able to go under the tape and head down Dairyhouse Lane and head down George Richards Way.

Speculation in other circles suggest it was a vehicle fire and someone was in the car at the time and fire fighters were at the scene during the afternoon.

GMP said in a statement:

“Shortly before 3.30pm today (Thursday 12 October), police were called to Atlantic Street in Altrincham by GMFRS to reports of an unexplained death.

Emergency services attended and a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is in its early stages and officers are keeping an open mind about the circumstances whilst enquiries continue.”
