Over 16,000 people will be running in the annual October Manchester Half Marathon run which will start and end in Old Trafford.

The route last year was changed at the last moments which confused everyone however at this time the route continues to be the same as last years event which will see the route coming down Cross Street in Sale and turning left onto Chapel Lane from there it will head towards Sale Metrolink Station and down Broad Road.

Fortunately for all the runners the weather will be much better although will remain on the cold side which will help all that are running, although not so good if you are a spectator or steward so wrap up warm.

If you are new to the race then we suggest running your own race, run easy and freely enjoy the experience get over the line in a good time, then next year after months of training and maybe competing you can blitz the time you got on Sunday.

Perpetration is key to a good race, wear good trainers, zero chaffing clothing and as it will be cold you might need something a bit warmer like a pair of running tights and a lightweight gilet which could be used for gels and maybe your own drinks bottle.

Technique is also key for a good race, we have seen many runners with their heads down and poor posture which is not good for energy retention but also for the back! keep your head looking to the horizon at all times, keeping the arms loose and the legs turning over with the toes up will give you the ultimate stride length and speed to get a good finish in the race.

With the new trainers from Nike and Adidas and other big named brands giving you some support both with how fast you go and with cushioning it won’t do anything if you have poor technique!

Hydrate well and most people will be aware to make sure you go to the home toilet for a pee before you get going, and once more before you start the race even if you do not feel like going, you will be surprised how much you can get rid off which will help during the race.

If its too cold and early for people not to worry because it will be shown live on the Manchester Marathon YouTube channel

With the Half Marathon taking place roads will be closed which you can find information here: https://www.manchesterhalfmarathon.com/road-closure-info/
