Trafford MV travelled to Sefton on Saturday afternoon defending their league leaders position and made the journey without captain Danny Burke and regular second row stalwart Andrew Clegg.

In surprisingly good conditions Trafford were met be a strong opposition and had to work hard from the opening whistle to ensure they were to get anything from the game. The home side opened with early penalties and the play was all Seftons for the first 15min as Trafford were forced to defend in numbers. Standing out for his defensive work was centre Matt Coxon.

The game was end to end throughout and Trafford eventually grew into the game and MV were able to string their own passages of play together.

Traffords intensity took it’s tool as Sefton conceded 2 penalty tries in addition to tries scored by Jamie Kingdon, Matt Coxon and Josh Salmon, all 3 converted by Pat Eccles, who also kicked a penalty.

Salmons last minute converted try for MV rounded off a creditable performance for MV but there is much more for this side still to give in their challenge for promotion.

This weekend Trafford welcome Tyldesley to MacPherson Park for a 3pm kick off.

Trafford MV again fielded 3 senior mens teams and are calling on local rugby players to Get Your Boots back on if you are not attached to a Club and add to our playing squads – contact Greg on 07834 857905.
