Due to illness to the ex Bucklow councillor Adele New who stood down with immediate effect recently meant a by-election was called.
The election will be on 2 November 2023 and the candidates have been confirmed as: Frances Cosby (Labour), Matthew Sellars (Lib Dem), Paul Lally (Conservative), Paul Swansborough (Reform UK) and Rodrigo Capucho Paulo (Green).
With the ward being Labour strong it may seem that Frances Cosby will find it easy however we think this time Partington will decide to give someone else a chance and vastly more experienced.
What the candidates should be focusing on:
Roads:
Carrington Relief Road has been a rollercoaster ride with many people now believing it will not happen due to several valid concerns such as having a road that goes right through Carrington Moss.
This road if its ever built will not do very much for Partington residents, it’s as if the councillors believe that once the road is open no new cars will come through! that entire road will do nothing other than cause more chaos for Manchester Road and roads in Partington.
Other roads that have been mentioned by others won’t happen until after 2045 and even then all will need planning approval.
Schools:
Partington has some very good schools and from the latest data not many places left, the latest housing development on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal/Lock Lane will bring with it many hundreds of people.
We remember in one live council meeting a former Partington councillor mentioned that not many kids will come to live on the new housing development! this was the most stupid thing any councillor has ever said.
What of course will happen is kids from Partington will have no option but to look elsewhere for education which will bring with it unique problems mostly due to the traffic issues, getting the child into a school in Warrington or Salford was mentioned on another council livestream which is really a complete disgrace.
Health:
Partington has a bad health crisis and it set to get worse over the next few years, they have one health centre with two sets of doctors in that same building all are under serious pressure and will not be able to cope with much more and could be planning to off load some residents to other GP practices.
The Chemists are from our understanding having some difficulties also mostly with supply issues.
Partington needs a new health centre with many more doctors and other NHS staff operating from it to meet demand.
Entertainment/Sports
Partington has already won £18.3m from the levelling up fund which should make leisure a bit better for residents.
For an adult there is next to no entertainment in the village so building a new entertainment venue is needed, a taxi rank needed and a diner a place where you can enjoy entertainment after a nice meal the perfect venue for Partington.
Travel:
Partington and indeed Carrington is badly in need of new public transport and cycle lanes that could be built on the so called ‘Live line’ on the old train route that used to go through to skelton Junction in Timperley or even for it to become a train route again would be equally well used and even now badly needed.
Candidates should look at what they can do to get the abandoned rail line operational again.
The area needs extra buses, Partington has already lost a bus service which has never been replaced and to think the 280 was installed to help people to get to Sale as TFGM decided to ditch local link during the day!
Crime:
Like anywhere these days crime is on the up and Partington has its own unique problems, candidates will need to ensure that all that can be done is being done and using powers to make sure local housing associations are actively trying to discourage anti social behaviour and complying with its own tenancy agreement unlike Your Housing Group.
We are not aware of any addiction clinics in the ward so maybe something could be set up for something like this to happen.
Sure Start centres need to be looked at or something similar that would help new and existing mothers.
Air Quaility:
With the bigger amount of traffic the ward more so in Partington and Carrington will suffer badly with air pollution so candidates could look into how this could be checked on a continued basis and find a way of reducing the problem, we would also ask for the local authority to publish health warnings when things are dangerous to human health.
The candidates have to get this right to give themselves a great chance in getting into council, we expect the two Trafford Labour councillors in the ward to give Frances a better chance but it is the people that vote that matter and all candidates have a chance and we wish all of them well with there campaign.
