Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton has sadly died aged 86
The club paid tributes to him saying “Sir Bobby was a hero to both young and old and the news of his passing will be mourned beyond the boundaries of Greater Manchester, across the United Kingdom and wherever football is played around the world.”
Manchester United fans left flowers outside the Old Trafford stadium paying there respects to him and have also left flowers and reefs along with Sheffield United fans at Bramhall Lane.
Sir Bobby Charlton who was one of the survivors of the Munich Air Disaster recovered and played 758 games and scored 249 goals for United in his 17-year playing career he also played for other clubs in his playing career such as Preston North End.
His England career started from 1958 to 1970 and gained 106 caps scoring 49 goals.
He became a director of Manchester United in 1984 then in 1994 was knighted after he previously was given a CBE and OBE,
In November 2020 SIr Bobby Charlton got a Dementia diagnosis,
He died surrounded by his family, who said in a statement they wished to: “Pass on their thanks to everyone who has contributed to his care and for the many people who have loved and supported him.”
“We would request that the family’s privacy be respected at this time,”
