In the early hours of this morning (20 November 2023) police got reports of an attempted robbery on Hereford Street in Sale town centre.

We have been told by staff working for Stanley Square Shopping Centre that a gas cylinder was used to blow up the ATM which is located next to Tesco.

Our reporter tells us that Hereford Street and John Street was closed at the time of publishing, Stanley Square shutters was down opposite the ATM although you could still access the inside shopping area.

At the scene we saw debris of the ATM and the front of the ATM was gone although looking from the sides the ATM was intact, at this time we do not know if any cash had been taken.

Because of the explosion Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) also attended the scene and thankfully no injuries were reported.

On the scene also was forensics checking for any clues to who blew up the ATM, as of now no arrests have been made but police are following up a number of lines of enquiry.
