After several consultations about what is to be done with the £19.3m levelling up fund for Partington some residents are very unhappy at what is being planned.
At the start of the process the area was supposed to have a refurbished sports centre, BMX pump track, and renovation of the changing rooms along with a path around Cross Lane Park.
This has somewhat changed, Cross Lane Park will be nothing but football pitches and a walking and running path with some refurbishments of the changing rooms.
From the information we have received the Football Association have apparently said that they would refurbish the changing rooms if they got two extra pitches for Cross Lane Park, this would also save money which would reduce the overspend.
We understand the biggest amount of money allocated from the fund will go to the sports centre, which will include a cafe and other modifications but we have read there will be no new pool.
Local people is are concerned about where the funding is going to and worried that all the football pitches will bring in people from other areas when it was supposed to be for Partington residents, another issue people have is about the parking issues.
With so many football pitches this will mean an issue during pre season with many teams looking to do training as well as playing football, this will mean full car parks and roads lined with cars, the only saving grace for residents is when the darker nights come around again next year, however weekends will always be an issue.
Due to the amount of houses currently being built and more in the pipeline and the chaos already known, more cars in the area spells even bigger problems for Partington residents.
With the new pitches it will also mean much of the current space on Cross Lane Park will be gone from the picture we have got, this will mean tearing up the trim trail which was widely slated as being a complete waist of money.
Again the council are not listening to Partington residents and showing at this time no transparency of how much everything has cost which we will fight for! as the good people of Partington deserve to know what is going on.
Of course having so many football pitches to hire means more money for a council that has recently mentioned S114 (Bankruptcy) several times on a YouTube livestream, the council might think that the residents don’t care what happens due to the decades of neglect but we can assure them they do and will fight tooth and nail to get what they need.
