The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the River Mersey and brooks in Trafford as water levels rise after another day of rain.
The current water levels at 6.45pm are as follows:
- River Mersey at Flixton 2.87
- River Mersey at Sale 2.02
- Sinderland Brook at Partington 0.81m (Flood Alert)
Sinderland Brook at Partington being on flood alert does not mean Partington will flood, the biggest danger to the area is from Manchester Ship Canal where the newest housing development would be completely flooded on and behind Lock Lane and further on to Hall Lane if Manchester Ship Canal ever flooded again.

In 1946 over 5000 homes were flooded in Irlam because of the Manchester Ship Canal flooding.
Other areas of Trafford under threat is Timperley where often with a huge amount of rain the Timperely Brook floods although Environment Agency has no water level information we expect at the time of publishing it will be very high.
The good news is and hopefully all the rain we have seen will be a thing of the past from tomorrow according to weather forecasters and we should see water levels going back to normal again, with a period of dry weather comes with a freezing cold side effect.
