Trafford MV Rugby open 2024 with a home game against bottom of the league De La Salle – if you know De La Salle this game will be anything but easy.

The Salford based side are capable of causing upsets and Trafford MV must ensure all the seasonal goodwill is left at home for the duration of Saturdays game.

Trafford MV need to start the season in the same form as we have seen in 2023 with only a single defeat all year blotting their record book. The team will be looking forward to play on their recently resurfaced pitch which will be in excellent condition compared to many on the circuit following the recent heavy rains.

TMV will be expected to name a strong side on Friday after the festive break has given knocks time to recover. Strength in depth has been a bonus for TMV over recent months as good training numbers have given cover in most positions and enabled the team to cope with forced absences. With captain Danny Burke leading from the front and a dangerous backline

Trafford will be confident of putting in a good performance in front of their home crowd. The team will be looking to extend their successful run an open the 9 point gap between themselves and Sefton even further.

With the Sun expected to shine and dry weather forecast for Saturday afternoon TMV will look forward to welcoming a sizeable crowd to MacPherson Park for the 2.15pm kick off at M33 6LR.

The Club will be fielding 3 senior men’s sides once again this weekend with the 1st XV vs De La Salle at home and the 2nds and 3rds both playing away at Bury and Aspull respectively all games kicking off at 2.15pm.

On Sunday Trafford MV Women’s 1st XV are also playing at home with Littleborough Women as the opposition kicking off at 2.00pm – please support local women in sport. The women’s team also head their league with only one defeat this season and have a narrow 2 point gap over Leigh Ladies.

Women’s Rugby is growing rapidly and the club are working hard on building girls age group teams from players across the borough and further afield. If any local schools or girls/women are interested in playing female rugby then please get in contact to help us grown the sport locally.

With the 6 Nations starting in just a months time there will be a big focus on Rugby Union and we call on all local supporters of the game to make Trafford MV the go to Club locally for watching amateur and International Rugby in our welcoming Clubhouse. We look forward to seeing you sometime soon.
