Police arrested a man after he had robbed Co-op on Washway Road 4 times this month, he was later charged with 4 counts of shoplifting.

Co-op has a very good CCTV system in place and with evidence from staff was able to give police all the evidence they needed.

Shoplifting is on the rise in Greater Manchester as the cost of living bites hard some people have no other options, most though go on to sell the items which are almost always high value items.

Police said on social media the offender went into the store on the 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th January 2024 and apparently on the 10th he was caught out with a full bag of multi pack Tuna which left the shelf bare!

He will have to appear in court which depending on the circumstances and according to the Sentencing Council could get a sentence of less than 6 months if the total of goods stolen is under £200 and goods over £200 will see him get up to 7 years inside, it is possible though the offender could simply get a police caution however will still carry a criminal record.
