At a recent Trafford Council meeting a local Liberal Democrats councillor asked about any available information about any new poles going up.

The question was put to Trafford Labour’s Stephen Adshead at a full Trafford Council meeting who told Simon Lepori that the he didn’t know how to track where a pole would be installed however the government are responsible for these firms being able to install internet poles as they bypass planning.

The only bit of control the council has to stop a firm installing equipment is if it’s blocking the right of way.

BRSK and others including mobile phone networks 5G millimetre wave antennas will be installed wherever they wanted on council land, a internet of mobile phone network can install equipment on private land although we know they prefer council land.

To track where a internet poll or mobile phone antenna is to be installed go to a website from TFGM called GM Roadworks, this is also a good tool to find out about all road closures and roadworks in your area.

Once on the website go to filter on the far left hand side and look for end date, click on the icon to the right then a calendar appears click the little arrow to choose 4 months and then click on any day.

This will update the map and then go to your area and click on the road works signs until you find BRSK and planned work date, it is very accurate although from time road works could be rescheduled.

This is the best way to track all roadworks being planned.

BRSK polls are much like the BT polls and are needed so the internet company can supply residents with an alternative to BT, having more choice is actually a good thing if it means you get a better service that costs a bit less however these Internet poll firms need to be more understanding of where they install there equipment.
