The annual and much loved Trafford 10k running event gets underway on 3 March which will mean road closures.

It all starts at Partington Sports Centre which will soon see a lick of paint and varnish for about £10m! at around 9.30am, Chapel Lane and the back lanes including Covershaw Lane and Sinderland Lane will be closed for a couple of hours.
The 247 bus that goes from Partington to Altrincham will be affected and likely to divert.
Event organisers Run North West claims the event is steeped in history as one of the fastest courses in the UK.
Below are the participants from our big athletic clubs:
- 49 Sale Harriers Manchester
- 31 Sale Dragons
- 23 Altrincham and District Athletic Club
- 14 Trafford Athletic Club
There will also be a number of runners from Trafford not associated with any club who participate to get a better time or for fitness reasons, some will also be participating for fun for the enjoyment of a great sport.
In the past the organisers had a huge challenge of poor surfaces more so on Chapel Lane which after several years of News4Trafford complaining and video recording the problems Trafford decided to actually fix the problem and with full respect did a very good job.
If you are a new runner and wanting to get a quick time you are best not starting too fast at the start and pace yourself, you will probably already know your time over a mile and this is what you should be aiming for, if anything left in the tank nearer the end give it all you can.
Once you have this new time, this is brilliant now you can see what you have to do so the next 10k you can beat that time, and so on until you are up front with the elites.
As a new runner we suggest not to be running in jog bottoms or really cheap trainers, when entering an event like this one or any other you need to do the best you can even if running for fitness.
Wear a lightweight t-shirt, shorts/running tights and a pair of trainers such as Adidas, Nike, Puma, Brooks, Asics, New Balance, Mizuno and so on, if you are wanting a fast time you will be best looking for a midsole that is not to deep these are known as racing flats.
The problem with cheap trainers whilst they might look and seem good enough they often get sweaty and the midsole inside is likely to be plastic with a small bit of EVA, the laces will not be able to cope and the tongue will slide, then the worse thing that can happen is your feet start to roll which could cause damage to both your ankle and toes.
