Trafford MV Rugby Club are back in league action this weekend (Saturday 2 March) The kick off is at 2.15pm as they seek to consolidate their lead position with four games left to play this season.
Trafford are eight points ahead of Southport who are in second position with Sefton third. This Saturday the opposition are Oldham who upset Trafford in the away fixture back in November 25-12 in a shock result.
Trafford have moved on a level since that result with new players having come into the team and a more focused approach.
Trafford have a strong team out with captain Danny Burke coming back into contention on the bench following injury.
The pack is unchanged from the last outing at Liverpool Collegiate which saw a 33 – 41 win away from home.
Trafford are now finding new combinations of players starting to work with Pat Eccles and Callum Yates at half back proving to be a danger off good set piece ball won by the forwards. The back three are also a new found threat with hat trick hero Eanna Glynn joined on the wing by quick thinking Tom Astbury.
Young Luke O’Shea has found his place at full back where he is looking comfortable under the high ball and adds to the attack when joining the line with pace. It’s looking like a close shave as Luke chases his first try in senior rugby with only 4 games left to play !
The recent poor weather has disrupted rugby across the North West with waterlogged pitched resulting in many games being cancelled. However Trafford MV’s excellent 1st XV pitch has stood up well and all senior team games have been fulfilled.
As the 1st XV kick off at home with a 2.15pm kick off we also have the 2nd XV playing at home as they welcome Blackburn 3rd XV to MacPherson Park (M33 6LR) for a 3.00pm kick off. Trafford MV’s 3rd XV make a short journey to play Eccles 3rd XV kicking off at 3.00pm.
Trafford MV Women’s XV also have an outing this weekend as Oldham Women’s XV are the visitors to MacPherson Park for a 2pm kick off.
Supporters are very welcome at all Trafford MV home games with free admission, bar and food in addition to exciting live rugby union a good afternoon is assured.
New players are always welcome at Trafford MV as we look to finish the season strongly and already look ahead to next season, potentially at a higher level of Rugby.
