This Sunday the Adidas Marathon 2024 begins and brings with it tens of thousands of runners and wheel chair competitors from all around the country.

Due to the marathon taking place during the morning some roads will have to close which you can see here: https://www.manchestermarathon.co.uk/road-closure-info/

Running 26.2 miles is no fun for anyone however if you get it right things will be much easier, getting things right for the big day will mean you have been training for a while which will include many longer runs and track work.

Getting it right will also mean that your diet and hydration will be good, and on the day you will have the right equipment such as a good quality pair of shoes and clothing.

For your shoes/trainers you will probably already have an idea which works for you, some people could get overwhelmed with the amount of shoes available and which ones will protect you best.

You do not need to pay over £200 for a pair of shoes, they need only to offer good cushioning and energy return, you could run in a shallower midsole, however these will not be of any use to you doing a marathon.

Do not go with a cheap pair of trainers, Karrimor or Hi-Tec or some other brand known to be cheap, whilst they are good for training runs they are useless for the event you are going in, we have seen people running in running shoes that are fit for the bin! it is these people that come in last or end up at the A&E if they do complete the 26.2m slog.

Clothing is more simple but also requires a look at the weather forecast, we suggest to always bring a very lightweight running jacket that can be rolled up and stored in a bum bag or to be worn on the day.
