Trafford Council is to help people quit smoking in a £200k campaign
Smoking rates have fallen in Trafford as people turn to vaping as a way to stop smoking, however in the least affluent areas of the borough smoking continues to be problematic and so in these areas more smoking diseases occur.
Partington is one of the areas and will get lots of help for people who want to quit smoking with Hidden Treasures who will offer residents a free 12-week cessation course and Age UK who will offer 1 to 1 support for those offer 50’s.
Smoking kills over 80,000 people a year in the UK, the common myth is smokers only get Lung Cancer when the facts are over a period of time could cause other cancers.
The government are trying to help people quit although we all know that they make a fortune from the taxes and of course the cigarette firms have some say in any decisions made which in itself a scandal.
Cllr Jane Slater, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health and Care, said:
“There are so many people who want to stop but just need support on their journey to giving up smoking.
“This funding is targeted at residents who need support the most. In the long-term, this money is a great investment. By helping people quit, it reduces the financial burden on the NHS. More importantly, it reduces the risk of serious diseases among our residents and helps them live healthier and happier lives.”
