It was widely expected that Labour was going to win the General Election 2024 since many people were fed up with the Conservative Party and the dire consequences of voting back in a party that had done so much damage.
Here in Trafford ‘Connor Rand’ helped Labour to take Altrincham and Sale West from the Tories and Andrew Western returned a bigger majority than he did the last time he stood for the Stertford and Urmston constituency, and Labour’s Mike Kane has also been re elected in the Sale and Wythenshaw East constituency although a little reduced on 2019 election.
The gloom lifted when it was announced that Labour had won and now the hard work begins for them to unravel the chaos that has been left for them, to rip up the draconian plans that the last government was about to unleash on to everyone.
Labour will be about building more houses, just like the Trafford Labour Group all they do is build houses without thinking about the need for new roads and infrastructure such as new schools, and shopping facilities.
They have a similar ‘Tory’ mantra about this nonsense about ‘Many Jobs’ or ‘Getting people to work’ for the reality is their is not as many jobs as you might believe for the majority of people who claim Universal Credit.
As Universal Credit is actually a dreadful benefit it is hoped that Labour will make things a bit easier on people whilst trying to find people work that pays proper wages and not badger someone into kneeling down praying for some money even though they will have tried hard to find work.
The Mental Health System is broken and nothing has been heard or read about what the Tories were going to do with it, so it is left to Labour to pick up the baton and get more people working in Mental Health, more money pushed in and things will hope to get back to normality and patients who need the help can get something way better than the utterly useless Talking Therapies.
Without a doubt Labour will get the NHS back on track, due to the way the NHS has been run into the ground it will take a while to make things better again.
Labour might also give vulnerable people and those unemployed the right to free legal help giving them back the justice under legal aid.
Lots of things will happen now and much of the damage the Tories have made will slowly be repaired, this is not an overnight thing, be patient with Labour and you will see a return.
Immigration is a big thing in the UK and under Labour from what is written and said it looks like it will be a soft touch and actually let more people in which will be problematic in every way, new houses built will likely be for them and not the people born in this country, under scrutiny and of course the opposition the plans will be watered down and changes made.
The Ukraine war and other wars will be high up on the list for Starmers government, it seems he will do much the same as Sunak has done and that is to help them win Putin because they believe if we didn’t do anything he would then do a Hitler and invade other countries bringing about a major conflict.
Only today it is claimed that the Ukraine president Zelenskyy wants peace talks with Putin or someone else from the Kremlin, in war games like this will be played, however any peace talks is the way forward and every country should play a part in helping to end this insane conflict once and for all.
Crime is a serious issue in many places these days, drugs are a bigger menace and not enough police to deal with the problems, judges not able to give the right punishment due to out of date laws, it will take a while for the mess to be sorted out.
Pollution might be down on the list of priorities but it really needs to be somewhere near the top, and with Labour going crazy about building huge housing developments all of this will bring many more cars and vans which brings about more roadside pollution that is killing over 100 people a year in Trafford, this will increase as more housing is built and let.
Bringing back the abandoned rail lines as either train lines again or cycle/walk paths should be a priority not just for national government but for Trafford Labour, the one that goes right through Trafford that goes over the A56 Manchester Road to Partington is the perfect route.
Despite the hope we all have now at a local level things continue onwards, the council should now get a fairer slice of money and we should see more things done for the borough, the Tories, Lib Dems and Greens will continue to fight for things that Trafford Labour may have missed or even doing wrong.
