A man has been jailed after attacking a woman in the Stretford area.

Declan Flynn-Barrett aged 25 from Stretford, has been jailed for two years and three months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday 28 August 2024.

On Wednesday 17 April 2024, police were called to reports of a concern for welfare in Stretford. Flynn-Barrett became violent against the woman, hitting her and leaving her with several cuts and bruises all over her body.

The victim managed to escape the property, but Flynn-Barrett ran after her into the street and tried to assault her again multiple times.

PC Winder, of our Domestic Abuse Team, said: “I would like to thank the victim and their family for coming forward and assisting our investigation. Without their support, we would not have been able to secure today’s sentence.

“Flynn-Barrett was a repeat offender who subjected his victim to a number of abusive acts. He is a dangerous individual who is quite rightly behind bars, away from harming people.

“He put his victim under a sustained attack, kicking her to the stomach and pulling her hair multiple times. His attack continued into the streets and was witnessed by many shocked members of the public.

“I would urge anyone out there who may have witnessed, been a victim of, or know about such upsetting and terrible experiences, that as a force and officers we are here to listen to you and committed on providing the necessary support to help bring you justice.

“No one should ever feel alone in such circumstances and in making contact with us you are doing the right thing.”

If you or someone you know has been a victim of rape or sexual assault, police encourage you not to suffer in silence and report it to the police by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
