Trafford Leisure is joining in the celebration of National Fitness Day on Wednesday 18th September, offering a wide range of free activities to inspire its local community to embrace an active lifestyle. This year’s theme, ‘Your Health is for Life,’ encourages people of all ages and abilities to discover the lifelong benefits of physical activity.
National Fitness Day is an annual campaign, coordinated by ukactive, which sees millions of people across the UK inspired to be more active through thousands of free activities hosted by gyms, swimming pools, leisure centres, sports clubs, workplaces, schools and online providers.
Jo Cherrett, CEO of Trafford Leisure, a community interest company wholly owned by Trafford Council, which manages leisure in Trafford on behalf of the council says: “National Fitness Day is a timely opportunity to highlight the levels of inactivity in our borough, which can impact the health of our community, including reducing life expectancy. Trafford Leisure’s purpose is to help people move more every day, and we hope National Fitness Day inspires people to make small, meaningful changes to their wellbeing. This year we have a range of free special events that cater for a variety of ages, demographics and abilities.
“We want to see as many people as possible getting involved across Trafford, whether it’s walking with us on our community walk from Partington, joining a women’s-only gym session in Stretford or trying a seated exercise class in Sale. Incorporating more movement into your daily routine benefits both physical and mental health, making it a positive step for your overall wellbeing.
“All activities are free, but we ask you to book your session in person at the appropriate leisure centre to avoid disappointment.”

Jo Cherrett concludes: “We understand that National Fitness Day is just one day of the year, but we hope these activities can inspire people in Trafford to start making small changes to their wellbeing. We don’t need to be perfect, but we do need to move a little more. Hopefully together we can inspire people to get back into physical activity or to take that first important step.
“Let’s make this National Fitness Day a memorable one for everyone! Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone to thrive.”
