Hale’s twice-yearly baby and children’s quality preloved items sale is back this November at St Peter’s Assembly Rooms on Saturday 23 November.

The sale, which has raised more than £20,000 for local hospitals in the last five years alone, started around 40 years ago and typically has more than 5,000 quality items on offer at bargain prices. 90% of the items sold cost under £2.

The last sale, which took place in April 2024, raised almost £2,000 for the Build to Beat Breast Cancer appeal. The appeal is raising funds for a new National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA) training facility an extension of the Nightingale Hospital site to provide training for a generation of breast imaging experts, helping thousands more women in the region get their mammograms.

The sale saw almost 3,000 items sold and had more than 150 buyers through its doors.

From books to board games, clothes to shoes, toys and baby equipment, the sale has everything needed to kit children out from newborn to 10 years old. The items are high-quality featuring top brands such as Marks and Spencer, Joules, Next, Mini Boden and many more.

Vendors can register to sell for free and 25% of their profits will go to the Build to Beat Breast Cancer appeal by Manchester Foundation Trust charity.

Kate Hasluck, Chair of the sale Committee, said:

“I would encourage everyone locally who has a child aged 0 to 10 to come along to our sale, especially this one which will be amazing for Christmas presents as well as the other things that can add up like Christmas jumpers or books. We have everything people need to kit their kids out with quality and new-to-them clothes, toys, games, books and equipment at bargain prices. 9 in 10 of the items we sell cost less than £2. The parents and carers who come to the sale typically save hundreds of pounds and many of our items still have tags on them or are brand new in box. We are looking forward to a bumper sale on Saturday 23 November and we expect to raise thousands more for the Build to Beat Breast Cancer appeal too. It’s a win-win for all!”

Regular buyer Claire added:

“Buying new clothes, shoes, books and toys is a major expense so this sale really is a lifesaver, especially at Christmas. It’s like Vinted or Facebook marketplace but without the hassle and postage costs. It’s so much fun filling up bags with great quality stuff that I know my kids will love – and that often costs less than £2 per item! I’d say half of my kids’ Christmas presents last year were from the sale. It’s amazing – much better than Black Friday!”

Vendor registration for the Good As New sale opens on 1 October 2024. Vendors should email ganstpeters@hotmail.co.uk with their name and email address and they will be given a vendor number to use to label their items.
