Alarms went off at a care home in Partington this evening (12 October) and according to some residents they did not go off.

Care staff at Elkin Court on Hardwick Road evacuated the building until the situation was resolved and made safe.

A strong odour of gas was coming from inside the property and engineers from a gas company likely to be Cadent came out to find the leak, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue came out also to check on things and if they were needed.

The alarms continued for over an hour then suddenly stopped, The all clear was given and residents could then relax and have a peaceful evening.

Evacuating all the residents was not needed.
