E-bikes and E-scooters are here to stay even if the few don’t want them around and here is why!
E-Bikes:
- Good for the Environment the government wants to protect
- Gets people from A to B faster
- Improves health and mental wellbeing
- Good for business
- Older and some disabled people can use to get out more lifting their confidence
E-Scooters:
- Getting from A to B faster
- The ability to take scooter into more places like some shops and on transport if allowed
- Good for fitness and concentration
- Nimble
The down side about E-Bikes is the type that has been tampered with to make it go sometimes up to 70mph, most though can get to around 50mph.
These types of E-bikes are used by mobile phone robbers and other crimes since they can get away much faster, however the same bikes often end up in a fire because of the tampering and using the wrong charger.
For the majority of E-bikes they are as safe as any bike and go similar speeds as a normal mountain bike, we are aware you can still cancel out the speed restriction in a couple of ways however even after that the bike is safe and will give the user about 4/5mph more which on a pedal assist bike won’t make much difference.
A helmet should be worn at all times and the user to make sure everything is working well, making sure the same charger is used.
As for a E-Scooter its a similar issue with super fast speeds and speed restrictions taken off, whilst their are many good reasons for a scooter we don’t know where they can fit in unless they are separated from other road users.
Riding an E-scooter on a public road can present dangers for the user even if they are focused and experienced, motorists do not even see cyclists so when a car hits a scooter the damage is much greater to the user.
Some of the Chinese made scooters that you can buy on Amazon are not regulated so whilst you can ride the scooter for a while, suddenly the disc brake fails and you end up either on your bum or in a bush.
Can you imagine then a disc brake fails or seizes up at about 40mph? with most scooter riders wearing no helmet it might end up really bad, so all scooters should go no more than 20mph, all should wear helmets, scooters need to be checked before use so that they are professionally given a full bill of health.
Where E-scooters can be used though will be a question of debate.
With E-Bikes though law enforcement should be targeting the suppliers of the bikes that are turbo boosted and home kits banned so that the only E-bike that can be bought will be safe to use with no need for any users lifting the speed restrictions as the speed limit is increased to 20mph for all bikes.
