Covershaw Lane in Partington has been closed since March 2024 due to a foot sized sinkhole and is still closed due to critical defects in the road.
According to Trafford the problem is the condition of the road that is the cause of the delays and the huge £100k that it needs to get this road opened again.
Initial money spent on fixing the sinkhole was nowhere near enough as road engineers found further issues in the road.
According to a report it says that to expedite the opening of the road the additional £100k has been earmarked in existing reserves relating to the One Trafford Partnership.
The issue is the road needs strengthening, this will need careful planning to ensure the road does not fall into the brook at the location of the sinkhole.
A tree has been cut down and barriers have been removed behind the sinkhole which has been filled for a few months, the work also needs to be completed by mid February 2025 so the sell out Trafford 10K race can get underway.
At the time of publishing the article the Google Maps road closure sign has now got the closure to the end of December 2024.
That leaves 2 months to get it reopened again and at this time nothing is happening other some white markings on the road.
We have asked Trafford Highways for a statement including a Freedom of Information request to get more information.
