In gloomy autumnal conditions Trafford MV travelled to Glossop and finally got something out of their Saturday afternoon to break their run of adverse results.

Trafford MV had a point to prove against the bottom placed Glossop and went about their task with a good intensity. Trafford worked hard to give themselves a good platform to play off with good scrummage and lineout ball allowing the back line to perform.

Defence was strong for Trafford with Zain Henery leading the way in the centres and the back row making the second phase ball their own.

Trafford ran in two tries in each half to earn a 4 try bonus point. Centre Ben Wainwright opened the scoring for Trafford with open side flanker Lewis Kingdon adding a second. The defence kept a first half clean sheet for the visiting team to go into the break 0-10 in front.

The second half went much as the first with MV defending well with Luke O’Shea clearing deep kicks from full back and the forwards maintaining possession.

Trafford made the possession pay with a third try from prop Paul Davenport after a good forward drive, Wainwright converted 0-17. This was added to when No. 8 Micah Dyos broke through tackles to force a touchdown with Wainwright again converting for a convincing 0-24 lead.

As the clock was running deep into the second half the last 10 minutes brought a revival for the home side as they ran in two late scores as Trafford took their foot off the pedal bringing the game to a close at 10-24 final score to Trafford MV.

The player of the match award went to prop James Webster for his solid performance in the set piece and his graft around the park. Trafford also picked up two yellow cards during the game with Ben Wainwright and Zain Henery getting the wrong side of the referee.

This was a much needed win for Trafford MV and with Heaton Moor losing 35-7 at New Brighton it meant TMV moved up to 10th in the table with 3 wins under their belts.

The focus now moves to this weekend when a very tough home fixture against Didsbury Toc H awaits TMV. Kick off will be at 2.15pm and there is a big call for local support to come down and get behind the home side.

Trafford MV are also calling on local rugby players to get their boots back on. There has been a big drop off in players since the Covid close down of sport and Trafford MV are calling on players to dig out their boots and come and play social rugby at the club as the first step back to playing regular Saturday afternoon league rugby.
