Following a freedom of information request and several emails to Trafford Highways we have exclusive information on what is going on with Covershaw Lane in Partington.
We are told that Covershaw Lane will reopen at the end of March 2025 although it could be delayed further due to weather conditions.

The road has been closed much of 2024 and seemingly nothing much was happening however investigations were fully underway, the filling of the sinkhole with stones was according to the council for corning works to begin.
At the time of publishing this exclusive article the road is closed and although cyclists and runners/walkers are allowed the road is not safe to have a car or many cars on it at present, it might also be closed to cyclists when construction gets underway.
We have also had information that the council have been in contact with the Trafford 10k which is a sell out for 2025 and it would be up to the organisers to decide if they want to change the route or even postpone the event, we suggest if you are running in this event to check the official website.
A Trafford Council spokesperson said:
“Prior to any construction, detailed design is required, the area requiring topographic, ground investigation and ecology surveys to ensure that all risks were considered which includes legal obligations covered.
These have all been completed on site over the past 3 months and currently we are awaiting the final reports from these surveys.
So far a tree bat survey and a wider ecology assessment have been carried out. Initial findings from the ground investigation survey show that this section of Covershaw Lane us undelain with a silty sand which has suffered erosion, likely from Calderwell Brook which has left behind a void under the roads surface layers.
We are continuing to work and engaging with adjacent landowners and bodies including Environment Agency, National Trust and farmers.”
