Homebase at Altrincham Retail Park is closing down with a loss of many jobs at a real bad time but who is going to be the new tenants at the newly refurbished store?

What we know is Homebase has been bought by the CDC group who also owns The Range however they bought 70 stores and it is believed a further 10 stores were bought by Sainsbury’s in August 2024.

It is currently unclear what will happen to the other 49 stores that were not included in the buyout and one of them 49 stores was the one at Altrincham Retail Park, currently the administrator has said those stores will continue to trade as normal until stock runs out.

As of now Trafford has only two DIY stores at B&Q Trafford Park and Screwfix in Altrincham that we know about.

The Homebase store which was for many years a standalone store had the idea of changing where the garden centre was to the right of the building and giving Lidl the space where the older garden centre was to the left this move saved nearer 50 jobs at Homebase and created jobs at Lidl.

Many people we asked at the Retail Park told us they would like to see a Cycle store, another told us a Decathlon store would be great, either way unless its another store with a garden centre the new extension will have to be either pulled down or a roof attached.

Who knows maybe Sainsbury’s will move in! we shall have to wait and see.
