According to the weather forecast seen no more snow is predicted to fall for the foreseeable future and the temperatures are going to rise during Sunday.
One Trafford did exceptional work to make sure snow and ice was cleared from our biggest roads in the borough but failed badly with back roads and pavements.
Some roads have gritting priority and others not so much, certain paths will have some priority such as around shopping areas.
In recent times where we have had a similar amount of snow, One Trafford gritted all the back roads and paths making things much safer and easier for people to get around, what we seen this year was everyone trying to walk on ice including elderly people.
We have heard from residents in Partington and Sale who are not happy with the gritting this year.
We are not sure if Eastway in Sale had some treatment however at the junction of Langdale Road and Eastway was lethal! invisible ice reported, one resident told us “As soon as I got to the end of Langdale Road I slipped and it was only when I got up I realised I was on pure ice”
One of our reporters reported seeing elderly people walking on the ice in the Altrincham area, every pavement was affected this year.
The council has a duty to protect all residents in the borough this was not kept this time around and we ask anyone walking or cycling who was hurt on our roads or pavements due to the ice to get in touch with us as soon as you can.
We are not expecting any further snow from the weather charts seen, however despite the warmer weather coming in we are still deep into winter and snow could fall again and we do not want the same situation again.
Councillors who are supposed to represent residents in every ward must also be asking questions over the state of the pavements and many back roads this time around and to make sure in future adverse weather events that people will be better protected.
