Trafford MV had to contend with strong winds on Saturday as well as tough opposition as they progressed to the Semi Final of the Robinson Brewery Cup by beating Eccles 17-19 away from home.
It was a touch game with scores level for much of it as both teams battled hard to get the upper hand. Tries came Trafford MV’s way through Jordan Rigg, James Halsall and Laurence Ryan with Luke O’Shea converting two of them.
Eccles also collected 3 tries but only managed the single conversion in the tight encounter. Jimmy Craven was Player Of The Match and Trafford now wait to see who their semi-final opponents will be.
There was a great advert for local Social Rugby as Carrington 1st XV came head to head with Traffords 3rd XV as both sides enjoyed a high scoring game at MacPherson Park.
With social rugby under the spotlight across the country it was good to see this spirited game taking place. Trafford were eventual 40-31 winners and ran in 6 tries through Jason Alexander, Callum Boyd, Dave Hopper 2, Andy Quigley and Aaron Fagan. Conversion were added by Callum Boyd 1 and James Diaper 4. Simon Wan was POTM for Trafford.
Congratulations to both teams on getting social players onto the pitch and keeping grassroots Rugby alive and kicking.
This coming weekend Trafford 1st XV will take on League leaders West Park (St Helens) away from home while the 2nd XV welcome Eccles to MacPherson Park (M33 6LR). New players are always welcome at Trafford MV contact wilfdooley@virginmedia.com if interested in playing.
