Due to a very small sinkhole opening up last year on Covershaw Lane in Partington the Trafford 10k running event that was scheduled for 2 March 2025 will now take place on 17 August 2025 at 9am.
Event organisers Run North West have emailed all entrants about the change of date and time, many runners will be disappointed in this news since its taken almost a year for the council to fix a very small sinkhole.
Residents in Partington and business are fed up with having to wait so long and the lame excuses by One Trafford who continue to claim that voids underneath the road need to be fixed and investigations have been done to make sure that bit of road is safe for future use.
People asking why this took so long are correct, this road should have been fixed last year even with investigations and bad weather!
The sinkhole as you can see in the picture opened up a day before the 2024 event and runners navigated around it, the situation now is the sinkhole has been covered up with stone, runners may be thinking all the council had to do was put some tarmac over the stone or even a very heavy mat so no one trips up which could have saved the sell out event.
N4TXTV on YouTube have been covering the sinkhole once a week and updating people about what is actually happening and other than a deep square cut around the sinkhole was seen then after several months it was then filled with stones, since then no other work has seemingly been done.
Run North West have added the new date for the event as August, having seen how fast One Trafford work on this it wouldn’t surprise us if this new date will be cancelled.
On the Run North West website a statement said:
“We are sorry to have to announce that we are going to have to move the date of Trafford 10K from Sunday 2nd March to Sunday 17th August 2025. Please note the start time of the race will also change to 9.00am as we will be in the middle of summer. All entrants have been emailed.
This is unfortunately out of our control and due to a sinkhole in the road that the council won’t be able to repair in time for the race day in March. The sinkhole is within the 1st Kilometre which is also the narrowest section of the course and means it would be simply impossible to go ahead on the planned date for safety reasons. We have left this decision as late as possible as we had remained hopeful that the road would be repaired in time, sadly this unlikely to happen.
On a positive note, we are very excited to host what will probably be the one and only summer version of the Trafford 10k”
