With the migration issue becoming ever more tense here in Trafford due to 300 asylum seekers mysteriously moving into Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham we have now managed to have a face to face interview with a man calling himself ‘abs’.
We firstly thanked the asylum seeker for agreeing to talk with us and asked several questions in which he answered which hopefully was the truth.
In a random order we asked (In Bold):
Are you aware of the homeless situation in Trafford? I don’t know what homelessness is can you tell me!
Do you get money, are you using an Aspen card? I get no money, all I get is 3 meals a day but others I know get money from the card you mention.
Do you get free healthcare? Yes! when I got into the room I went with the others to a hospital for check ups and we have nurse come to check if anyone gets unwell.
Where did you come from? He was confused and he found it hard to give us an answer only saying Germany.
What do you do every day? I have to get documents from the government so I can work, some are already working in the community, to get money you need to work, I am bored!
How long do you expect to be here? I don’t know what is going to happen to me at this time.
Do you understand yet about some UK Laws? No we have not been taught anything yet
Serco is in charge of security and are very sketchy at best, always telling the migrants not to be talking to people which is causing further issues, Abs also believed that it would be much better for some of them to talk to local people that are good in English so we can calm fears, but not to be putting a camera up!
Abs and all the others so far are very shy when someone starts video recording them, they hide away because as he says “Its really bad because we end on all social media and it will get all over the world and we cant have that” this makes sense as they are on the run for a reason and don’t want to be located.
Whilst Abs seemed like a nice individual with incredibly good English, it is very hard to work out what these guys are really here for other than for our generous benefits system and living the life of Riley and smoking endless cigarettes, which is unhealthy and costly! It seems their education is poor, and not much is being done to improve their understanding of not only UK laws but our way of life.
They have no understanding of what it means to be homeless, no understanding about politics in this country at a National or local level, this could be the same in other areas of the UK.
Abs never gave me where he came from, however having fully checked crime rates in Afghanistan (where many of the 300 migrants come from) and its off the scale with high abduction rates and drugs offences.
On a serious issue crime is something that might have already happened, Police know some things about every individual but we are not certain if they have crime reports about them, so looking at it from another angle ‘We could be letting in some bad people’ is it worth the risk? prevention is better than the cure surely!.
Despite these concerns Abs was nice enough to give us an interview and was nice throughout, he told us that when he saw our reporter again he would come over and talk which we agreed with.
