Emergency services were called out to a huge fire that had broken out at an industrial estate this morning in Wythenshawe.

Police closed of most roads around the Roundthorn Industrial Estate and firefighters told people close to the fire to keep doors and windows shut, some also had to be evacuated until the all clear was given.

The smoke could be seen from nearby Manchester Airport which could be seen on a few YouTube live streams.

Reports suggest residents heard explosions which would have been the HGV’s fuel tank blowing up.

During the afternoon firefighters managed to put out much of the fire and residents that were evacuated were allowed to go back home, all roads have also been reopened and an investigation is underway about how the fire started.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:“Shortly after 8.15am on Sunday 23 February, 10 fire appliances from across Greater Manchester were called to attend a fire involving heavy goods vehicles on Ennis Close, Manchester.

“Crews arrived quickly and are working hard to extinguish the fire. Several nearby properties have been evacuated.

“Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service are also in attendance.”
