New cycling facilities could be approved in Partington soon

As part of the £18.3m levelling up fund a new cycling facility which will include a secure container to keep bikes in and lighting could be built on Cross Lane Park in Partington.

The cycling facility is designed for kids to learn how to cycle in a safe environment it will also be used for those that can already cycle, the facility will be built on a degraded BMX track.

Objections though have come in by residents along with Partington Parish Council and Positive Partington Partnership who are concerned with the storage container and anti social behaviour, residents are concerned about the lighting at the site.

The Storage Container will be a target for vandals and despite assurances all bikes should be stored elsewhere.

According to the application the lighting columns will not cause anyone any issues as some have objected to, with the nearest residential property being around 100 yards away, it also claims trees in the way will screen any light interference.

Parking issues will become more of an issue in the immediate area once football facilities are improved and the changing rooms are built, having more double yellow lines will ensure existing residents are not impacted by cars from players and officials that will come from outside of the area.

We are 100% keen to see more cycling facilities in Partington it needs to be done with all concerns raised looked at before minding to grant the application.

The safety aspect needs to be looked at better, one resident in the application is concerned about the distance between the nearest football pitch and footballs hit at high velocity ending up flying past children as they enjoyed cycling, Sport England has also mentioned this in the application.

Sport England may object to the application due to this cycling facility taking up too much room and could cause problems for football provision, although the council believes they are being a bit unfair with there comments and would still grant the application with or without them.

A strong high fence is needed surrounding the cycling facility which will help keep kids safe and would also help stop any vandalism taking place, motorbikes are seen on Cross Lane Park which could cause damage.
