For the second consecutive year, University Academy 92 (UA92) has achieved the highest possible three-star accreditation from British Universities and College Sport (BUCS).
UA92 is the youngest institution to be recognised for its excellence in football and futsal, securing top marks across all criteria – Participate, Lead, and Compete.
This underscores the institution’s dedication to both male and female football opportunities, high-quality coaching, and the extensive upskilling and CPD opportunities available to students.
UA92 has six competitive teams, with over 120 competitive players across four men’s teams, one women’s team and one futsal team – representing approximately ten per cent of the student body. In just four seasons, UA92 teams have seen an impressive three title wins and three promotions, showcasing the institution’s success in university football and futsal.
Supported by BUCS funding, 12 UA92 students have gained FA coaching qualifications through the BUCS Football Development Project, delivering sessions to over 100 participants across community groups.
A team of 13 students have also taken part in leadership initiatives, including the Women’s Leadership Programme, FA Leadership Academy, and Emerging Club Leaders Programme, securing placements at local clubs like Trafford FC, Liverpool Feds and FC United of Manchester.
Sean Lofting, Football Development Officer at BUCS, said “UA92 are fully deserving of achieving three-star Accredited University status for the second consecutive year.
“They have gone above and beyond in their engagement with Football Development programmes, most notably through Development Project funding, engagement in the Manchester Universities working group and being a part of the Emerging Club Leaders pilot programme.”
Chris Smith, Football and Futsal Development Officer at UA92, said: “This accreditation reflects the dedication and hard work of our staff, coaches and students.
“Football is undeniably integral to our offering at UA92. Students are drawn to the strength and reputation of our provision and this recognition highlights our commitment to nurturing an environment where students can play, develop and upskill.”
Lola Arribas Rodriguez, a second year Sports and Exercise Science student at UA92, said: “Being part of both the Women’s Leadership Programme and the Emerging Club Leaders programme has pushed me out of my comfort zone, helping me grow in confidence and expand my network.
“My placement as a Fan Experience Officer at Liverpool Feds allows me to share ideas and learn from real-world experiences, while also fuelling my passion for women’s football.”
Sport is just one part of UA92’s offering. With courses across business, media, digital and sport, students of all disciplines can get involved in the thriving sports community. Find out more at University Academy 92 | UA92
