Volunteer group ASEZ WAO, representing the World Mission Society Church of God from Trafford and Birmingham branches, came together at Reddish Vale Country Park in Stockport to help clear litter and debris along the River Tame.

The event was supported by The Greenspace Project and the local Neighbourhoods Team, and it was made even more special with the presence of Stockport’s Deputy Mayor, Kerry Waters, Deputy Mayoress Wendy Nadin, and Stockport Council Countryside Officer Daryll Falconer, who all joined the volunteers in the cleanup effort.

The severe flooding that occurred at New Year left debris scattered along the riverbanks, particularly around Harrison’s Weir.

While the local council and residents had already put in tremendous effort to restore the area, on Sunday, around 40 volunteers came together with great enthusiasm to supercharge the cleanup response. Over the course of two hours, the team worked tirelessly, collecting wheelie bins, tires, metal debris, and numerous bags of plastic and other materials from the countryside.

Deputy Mayor Kerry Waters, who took part in the effort, expressed her heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Keep up all the good work you are doing. Everyone is absolutely amazing… I take my hat off and applaud you all. Well done.”

ASEZ WAO is an international young adult worker volunteer group, united by a shared mission to build sustainable societies through climate change response activities.

Their local efforts are part of a larger initiative to improve both our communities and the environment, driven by the dedication and energy of young adults committed to making a difference in the world.
