In recent times and closer to home, the Bridgewater Canal breached near Dunham Massey at the start of the year, and now it’s the turn of the Macclesfield Canal, which started to breach on 28 March.
Today, a part of the canal bank fell in, and much of the canal water has escaped, flooding fields between bridges 52 and 53 near Bosley.
Boats were moved further down the locks on 28 March.
Footage seen shows the huge amount of damage to the part of the canal affected, with no water, and it looks like both sides of the canal have been hit hard.
We believe the Canal and River Trust is dealing with the huge breach and will need to do more to make the area around the breach safer as people come to video the site. From the footage seen, the immediate area looks like more of the canal bank will collapse.
We have contacted the Canal and River Trust for more information on the breach.
