Redrow had already been refused by Trafford Council and the planning inspectorate to build this gigantic housing development on either side of Warburton Lane, and they are back with a new application.

The difference this time seems to be the amount of affordable housing they are offering; the same issues, though, exist!

  • Acres of green belt land gone
  • No new infrastructure (Shops, Medical facilities etc)
  • No new road infrastructure

The entire housing development would be nearly 600 new homes that, if Trafford Planning approved this time, would mean even more cars and vans in the area, which would cause more congestion and pollution.

Having the relief road won’t do anything to help; the cycling infrastructure in Partington is dreadful. People are even complaining about the cars and vans being parked along the entire length of Warburton Lane near Broadoak School! They are always in a cycle lane! The application suggests there is lots of cycling infrastructure! Where? It’s been the same for decades, and nothing has ever been done about it.

Whilst many would be aware of the serious need for housing in Trafford, the type of housing that is going up, not just in Partington, is not the type of housing that is needed. The waiting list for rehousing is huge, with people having to wait over a decade to find a suitable place to live.

Although anywhere better would do for these people, the type of accommodation needed would be social housing, since many are unemployed or disabled and would not be able to afford a private apartment or house such as the units that are going up everywhere in Trafford and this one.

We are incredibly concerned about the amount of green belt that will be lost and the possibilities of yet more history being churned up or buried, never to be seen again, more so on the western side of Warburton Lane where there once was a deer park.

One of the most frustrating things here in Trafford and with the housing developers is that even when offices or warehouses are built, they don’t care about the history they have destroyed that could have been preserved not only for those interested but for children to learn from, which you will agree is important in understanding history.

Although all of the housing developments in Partington have had some kind of archaeological assessment, nothing has been retained that even the assessors have mentioned, and we expect the same if this housing development is approved.

World War II airfields have been ripped up and destroyed for warehousing in Trafford Park, and Woodford Airfield, where the famous Avro Vulcan and Avro Hurricane, along with the Nimrod, once stood, is now a housing development. This is an absolute disgrace by all those who build on our history and proves that all developers care about is how much money they can make!

This aligns nicely with what we have been saying for years about all of the developments that are still continuing in Partington, since it is a similar theme! Do they at any time care about the existing residents when they start realizing that unless some traffic management is in place, they will all find it hard to get in or out of the area, especially during peak times?

Similarly, what did any of these housing developers do to help existing and new residents in Partington with schools, shops, and medical infrastructure? Absolutely nothing! It gets worse! People from other areas are now heading for Broadoak School because there are no school places left; Partington will be swamped with children from other parts and will not have room for anyone new that comes to the area.

This new housing development that could be approved will take many years to be up and running. We think more housing developments will spring up to further decrease the green belt, which we must protect at all costs. Partington will be a bottleneck with or without this new Redrow development, and who is to blame for this mess? You make your own mind up!

You can view the application by using ref 115155/HYB/24 on the Trafford Planning search website.
