Costs of food have risen and continue to do so, which is not helping takeaways. Speculation is that a Chinese takeaway in Sale looks to have closed its doors for the last time. Dragon City on Washway Road in Sale has been closed now for almost two months, with only a printed bit of paper on the front door telling people that “The business is closed until further notice.”

Inside, the small TV has been taken away, but everything else is the same. We have tried to contact the owner; however, we have been unsuccessful, and local people who loved the takeaway can only hope Dragon City will be back, although one resident has told us that the owner has retired.

The other takeaways that have been seen on websites like RightBiz and others are Deluxe on Park Road in Timperley, Chicken Box on Washway Road, Sale, and Koo Few on Manchester Road, Timperley, which has a ‘For Sale’ sign outside the takeaway.

We would like to add that the above businesses, although up for sale, are still operating as normal.

Small businesses do get some help from the council, and it is not known if any of them have had any contact with Trafford Council.

We expect other takeaways to be listed sooner or later as Rachel Reeves continues to kill off small businesses.

More pain is expected for businesses with yet another possible emergency budget before the Autumn statement, although nothing is on the table yet. We can only speculate from the way the economy is at this time, and things are projected to be bad for the rest of the year and into 2026.

Rising inflation by the time of the Autumn statement and more tax hikes for businesses will mean that by 2026 the number of takeaways and even smaller shops and cafes will vanish from the face of the earth. Even the big players might have to reduce things to make ends meet.

All of this means massive job losses, and with hardly any jobs for unprofessional people, it will be even harder for existing unemployed people to find work. With even fewer tax receipts and those with the broadest shoulders escaping to another country, what will be left for the unemployed and the most vulnerable in society?
