Residents at a Sale extra care scheme enjoyed an Easter treat this week, when they were visited by baby chicks and a four-year-old miniature Shetland pony.

The event at L&Q’s Fiona Gardens on Atkinson Road, Sale meant residents could enjoy friendly pats with the pony – called Pippy Longstocking – some of whom hadn’t seen a pony up close since childhood.

Lucy Berry, a former Fiona Gardens employee and now the founder of Perfect Pony Events, organized the visit and is training Pippy to become a therapy pony. She said: “Pippy’s calm nature makes her ideal as a therapy pony. It’s wonderful to be able to share the joy animals can bring.”

“Perfect Pony Events gave our residents such a treat,” added L&Q Extra Care Manager Sarah Millican. “From Pippy to the baby chicks to the Easter eggs, there were smiles all around. It was especially lovely to welcome residents from other schemes, their managers, and even some grandchildren. With the sun shining, the day couldn’t have gone any better.”

The event was also supported by HJM Balloons, who donated Easter eggs and balloons on behalf of the Community Wishes charity.
