A light aircraft crashed at Manchester Barton Aerodrome (formerly City Airport Manchester) tonight (29 April) at approximately 5:07 PM.

Emergency services, including Barton’s own emergency crews, attended the crash, and two people were taken to hospital in an ambulance. At the time of publishing, we have no information on the extent of their injuries.

The AAIB has been informed and will be carrying out an investigation into how the light aircraft crashed, which will include looking at the aircraft and any data that the pilots had. ATC will also be asked about the crash and what they saw.

Witnesses saw the incident unfolding and claimed the aircraft took off and came back down again, breaking up upon landing.

Our onsite RFFS attended the incident and has worked alongside external emergency services. The two persons on board the aircraft have been taken to hospital via road ambulance.
