The Rugby season culminates this weekend with Trafford MV’s 2nd XV in Cup Final action on Saturday. The Club will take a squad of 20 players to New Brighton RFC, where they will face a tough contest against the already crowned league winners Wigan RFC.
With conditions looking set to be good, Trafford will be looking to produce their A game with their eyes set on silverware. Trafford MV will be playing in the first of four Finals on the day.
Match Line-up:
11:00 – Wigan RUFC 2nd XV vs Trafford MV 2nd XV
12:45 – Caldy Rugby Club 3rd XV vs Marple Rugby Club 1st XV
14:30 – Congleton Rugby Union Football Club 1st XV vs St Edward’s Old Boys RUFC 1st XV
15:45 – Caldy 2nd XV vs Sedgley Tigers RUFC 2nd XV
Running alongside the rugby, New Brighton Rugby Club will be hosting a beer festival with over 40 ales as part of their 150 years anniversary. If you fancy a trip out, head to CH46 3RH.
On Sunday, Trafford MV’s U16 side will compete in the Final of the Lancashire Vase against Southport at Leigh RUFC, kicking off at 3:00 pm. This is a great achievement for the players and coaching team and rounds off a good season for the team before they step up into Colts Rugby next season. All credit is due to the junior rugby section and the dedication of the coaching teams, which bring players of calibre through season upon season.
The cricket season has now kicked off at Trafford MV C.C., and the recent spell of good weather has come as a bonus. Last year, the start of the season was delayed by a month due to heavy rains preventing pitch preparation in the lead-up to the season – this year, clubs are a step ahead! This weekend, TMV will have four teams competing over Saturday and Sunday, with home games for the 2nd XI vs Woodford on Saturday and the 3rd XI on Sunday. The 1st XI has games on both days, travelling to Wirral CC on Saturday and Parkfield Liscard CC on Sunday – a busy early-season fixture list.
Trafford MV CC Ladies Softball Cricket team made their first-ever appearance in midweek and fell short by 75 runs at Bowdon Vale. The team will be looking to regroup and go again in their next game on Sunday, May 18th, at Timperley CC. The Club is looking for girls/ladies aged 13 years and over with an interest in playing cricket – contact wilfdooley@virginmedia.com and your enquiry will be dealt with.
