An unexpected US aircraft visited Manchester in the early hours of this morning (17 May), which some Partington residents heard as it came over the area towards Barton Aerodrome, where it landed safely.
It was a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey that landed to refuel. Viewing live on Barton Aerodrome’s CCTV cameras on the website, the action started as the Osprey was taking off; a line of lights from vehicles was seen moving into position in front of the aircraft.
It was around 00:15 AM when the flashing of the Osprey’s lights was seen, and it took off safely. Tracking it on live radar, it climbed out of Barton and headed north.
The Osprey is an incredible aircraft and started life in 1998; it was introduced in 2007 and combines a helicopter with a fixed-wing aircraft. It is used for military staff and cargo.
