One of the biggest athletics events takes place tomorrow (18 May), and it so happens the event will also come through Trafford.

The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run is back, and tens of thousands of runners will take part, including elite international athletes. The run includes a half marathon and a 10k race that heads towards Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.

Along with the adult events, there is also a chance for children to participate and try out athletics themselves.

With the weather being great at the moment, it is expected that the event, especially the 10K run, will attract many spectators who will support all the runners as they try hard to get a good time in this short race.

In recent times, spectators have seen Mo Farah and Eilish McColgan and other big names in the athletics world, including Haile Gebrselassie. For those who are into or want to get into athletics and have never seen an international athlete run, this is your chance.

The elites, of course, will have the best equipment, and we expect them all to be wearing the latest running trainers; often, they will wear prototypes. For the rest of the runners, it will be a mix of Adidas and Nike.

Elite women will start the 10k at around 11:30 am, and the men’s shortly after at 11:45 am. We suggest getting to the run route at around 11 am to get a good position.

Due to the race, roads will also be closed, although it won’t affect Trafford residents too much. You can view road closure information Here
