GMP and Trafford Council have teamed up to tackle drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in the Stretford area.
Police carried out a drugs warrant at Haydock Close, Stretford, on Monday 19 May 2025.
A quantity of class B drugs and cash was recovered, and a man was arrested; he has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
GMP’s Trafford North Neighbourhood Policing Team and Trafford Community Safety Team have now successfully applied for a Partial Closure Order at Manchester Magistrates’ Court that will run until 21 August 2025.
Closure orders are issued by courts to shut down addresses or parts of properties linked to criminality.
The order prohibits access to the property by all persons except the named tenant and authorised personnel, including officers from Trafford Council, the landlord, Greater Manchester Police, and emergency services.
A closure order is a legal directive, often issued by a court, that prohibits the use of a property, usually a house, for human habitation or for any other purpose, for a specified period.
They can be granted for a variety of reasons, including serious anti-social behaviour, the presence of drug-related activity, or the property being deemed unfit for habitation.
Inspector Scott Wolstenholme said: “We rely on information from the public to aid our investigations and we will take action against anyone who is a blight on our communities.
“We have a number of tools at our disposal to tackle community crime like drug dealing, ASB and theft including the courts, behaviour orders and house closures, and we will use those in conjunction with partners like Trafford Council.
“Anybody who has any information or concerns regarding ongoing crime within their community should contact GMP on 101 or via the reporting tools on our website, or by calling Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
Councillor Rose Thompson, Executive Member for Communities and Safety at Trafford Council, said: “This action sends a clear message that we will not tolerate properties being used for serious criminal activity.
“Despite earlier enforcement, the problems at this address persisted and continued to place local residents at risk.
“Closure orders are a powerful tool to reduce harm and restore confidence to the community. We are grateful to GMP and to residents for their support in helping bring this case forward.”
