Local firm launches ‘Book Bank’ initiative to support underprivileged children in Trafford

Simon Lowe, owner of the respected local firm Total Building and Roofing, has launched a heartfelt initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged children in the Trafford community.

Through his newly founded Book Bank project, Simon is providing free books and sensory books to children who may not otherwise have access to them.

This generous effort seeks to not only encourage a love of reading but also to support children with additional needs by offering sensory books that engage through touch, sound, and interaction — vital tools in developing communication and emotional confidence.

“This initiative is about giving every child a chance to experience the magic of books,” said Simon Lowe. “Every child deserves the opportunity to read, to explore stories, and to be supported in their learning, regardless of their circumstances.”

The company is now funding the purchase of books for vulnerable children living in extreme poverty in Yucatán, Mexico — a region where over 70% of families live below the poverty line.

The books are purchased and distributed by Julio Javier Castillo, a local resident of Yucatán, who ensures that the donations directly reach families in need.

“I can’t express how grateful we are for Simon’s generosity,” said Castillo. “For many of these children, owning a book is something they never imagined. These stories bring hope, joy, and imagination into homes where there is often very little. It reminds them that the world is bigger than their struggles — and that they are not forgotten.”
