On 1 June at around 4 p.m., a 999 call was made to the police when a male was seen climbing through a window of a residential property in Eccles.
A few minutes after the first 999 call, another member of the public also called the police, reporting that they had seen two men running through their garden in possession of a machete and a knife along with power tools.
Armed officers attended the property, and the owner had suffered an injury to his head. While some officers stayed with the victim to give him first aid, others were tasked with locating the suspects.
A rapid investigation was conducted by police back at a local station by trawling through CCTV, and information was given to those on the ground. A description of the two men was passed across, and dog unit officers and armed police conducted a thorough area search in an attempt to find the men.
Two men aged 35 and a 25-year-old man were arrested in the Sale area. Both remain in custody for questioning.
Chief Inspector Matt Jackson, of GMP’s Specialist Operations, said: “This is an excellent response from our teams in our Specialist Operations Branch. Not only did they react quickly, but they were able to give the victim of this crime an extremely quick and positive update that two men were in our custody awaiting questioning.
“It means as a force we are continuing to make a real difference when it comes to burglary as we know this type of crime is really intrusive and is the reason why as a unit we are tasked with finding those intent on committing these offences and catching them in the act so we can bring them to justice.”
