Singer Jessie J is to take a break from music as she will soon go into the hospital to get treatment for early-stage breast cancer.

The singer, aged 37, declared she will beat the cancer at the Capital Summertime event in front of a near full house at Wembley Stadium. She will now get treatment and then a period of rest before slowly resuming her music career.

Jessie said to her fans on her Instagram page:

“I’ve been going back and forth a little bit on whether I should share it. I want to, but there are lots of opinions outside and knowing that the media are going to make this way bigger than it needs to be.

“But also knowing I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me and also I’m a sharer; I’ve always shared everything that I go through in my life.”

Breast cancer, like most cancers, if caught early, gives you a much better chance of survival and is curable as treatments these days are highly advanced.

Cancer UK has a statistic claiming 23% of breast cancers are preventable in the UK. The biggest risk factors for getting breast cancer are being obese and drinking alcohol, with not breastfeeding in third place, although other factors will also play a role.
