A woman has been pulled out of her car after a collision earlier this morning in Stretford.

The car was in collision with a van on Edge Lane and ended up in the Bridgewater Canal. Emergency services were called, and a woman was rescued and is now recovering in the hospital.

Edge Lane was closed for a time whilst emergency services attended the incident, and some access restrictions were also in force around Stretford Metrolink station.

A narrow boat further down the canal was in the wrong position yesterday and not related to the incident.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “A car has crashed into a van and then has gone into the canal. The driver has been safely removed from the car and water and will be taken to the hospital as a precaution.”
