Emergency services attended a huge fire in a derelict building in Manchester City Centre this evening (23 June) the smoke from the fire could be seen all over the city centre.
It is not known at this time what caused the fire at the Hotspur Press building and an investigation will be underway by both the fire service and police, A apartment block and Oxford Road rail station were evacuated.
At this time there are no reports of any injuries.
Due to the fire roads have been closed in the City Centre and other residential properties close to the scene have been told to keep their windows closed until further notice.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Crews are working hard to tackle the fire at the Hotspur Press building. 20 fire engines from stations across Greater Manchester are at the scene, where three floors of the building are alight. Multiple jets and the air unit are in use to prevent the spread of the fire.
“All floors of the two apartment blocks on Cambridge Street have been evacuated.”
Rail services will start to get back to normal with expected delays and cancellations following the disruption.
